AAPS Letter In Support of NICE Act by Rep. Gohmert

Re: Support for H.R. 5816, National Informed Consent Exemption (NICE) Act

Dear Representative Gohmert,

Thank you for your efforts to protect the medical freedom of Americans by introducing H.R.5816, the National Informed Consent Exemption (NICE) Act.

Your bill embodies long standing policy of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) that calls for a moratorium on vaccine mandates and for physicians to insist upon truly informed consent for the use of vaccines.

Patients must have the freedom to refuse medical treatment and to be informed about their medical condition, the risks and benefits of treatment, and appropriate alternatives. Unfortunately, these principles are being increasingly abandoned as mandates requiring COVID vaccines are imposed by government agencies and others, despite many unknowns and concerns about both short and long-term safety, and studies demonstrating waning effectiveness even with repeated boosting.

The bottom line is that Americans are harmed when one-size-fits-all medical decisions are forced on them by politicians. Medical decisions must properly remain with individual patients and their families, in consultation with their trusted physicians.  H.R. 5816 protects these rights. We support this bill and encourage Congress to consider and pass it as expeditiously as possible.

Sincerely,

Jane M. Orient, M.D.

AAPS Executive Director
