AAPS President Al Fisher Encourages Congress to Continue Efforts to Repeal ACA

January 4, 2018

Sen. Dan Sullivan
702 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Sullivan:

As president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS), I am writing to you about our organization’s white paper on the repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Enclosed is a condensed version of the white paper. The full version is available on our website at
aapsonline.org/whitepaper.

We believe that the Affordable Care Act is driving up the cost of medical care and is now in a death spiral. It has been reported that the premiums in North Carolina are over $37,000 – and that does not include copays and deductibles.

We believe that the citizens of a free country should not be forced to purchase products or services — as is now occurring under the individual mandate.

We believe that the Affordable Care Act should be replaced with a free market system. We support the expansion of Health Savings Accounts including the 1-page Primary Care Enhancement Act, HR 365 / S1358.

We support charity careand proposals that encourage physicians to provide charity care. AAPS thanks you for your past efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 920 385 8686 or our executive secretary Jane Orient, M.D. at 1-800-635-1196.

Sincerely,

Albert L. Fisher, M.D.
President
Association of American Physicians and Surgeons
