Colleen Kraft, M.D.
President
American Academy of Pediatrics
345 Park Boulevard
Itasca, IL 60143
Dear Dr. Kraft:
As president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, I am contacting you about an initiative that is underway at the American Academy of Pediatrics to collect health data on all U.S. children. The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons is a national organization with members in every state and virtually all specialties.
One of our members has informed us that the American Academy of Pediatrics intends to capture patient data from electronic health records, from integrated health systems, and from insurance companies. The data will be stored and analyzed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. There does not appear to be any provision for the patients and parents to authorize the submission of their health information to the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons is committed to preserving patient privacy and we are therefore curious about this new data collection plan. Would you be willing to share the details of this plan with the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons? We are interested in working with other organizations in the realm of patient privacy.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. My office address is 10 East Irving, Oshkosh, WI 54901. My cell phone is 920-385-8686.
Sincerely,
Albert L. Fisher, M.D.
