Doctor Scores Big Win Against Sham Peer Review

On August 30, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit issued a huge win for a physician fighting back against Sham Peer Review.

Lawrence Huntoon, MD, PhD, Chairman of the AAPS Committee to Combat Sham Peer Review, testified in support of the physician during her trial, and the Eight Circuit prominently cites Dr. Huntoon’s testimony in its decision in favor of the doctor:

“At trial, one of Dr. Miller’s experts, Dr. Lawrence Huntoon, presented evidence that HRMC had not complied with the Medical Staff Bylaws because it did not afford Dr. Miller a hearing prior to requesting a reduction in her surgical privileges. … Dr. Huntoon also opined on Dr. Miller’s career prospects. He testified that a NPDB report indicating that a physician voluntarily reduced her privileges while under investigation would be ‘absolutely devastating’ to the physician’s career.”
