Dear AAPS Members and Friends in New Jersey:
New Jersey Senate Bill S4047 is a bad bill that will harm, not improve, patient care.
This legislation would impose a “cultural competency and implicit bias” training requirement on all health care professionals who provide in-home care.
Seeing patients as a label—as this type of mindset demands—instead of as an individual, is harmful to the ethical practice of medicine. Requiring such training is not only unethical, it also diverts time away from continuing education that would actually benefit patient care.
The New Jersey State Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee is holding a hearing on January 4, 2024, that will include consideration of this harmful legislation.
Please take a moment to send committee members a note asking them to OPPOSE S4047.
You can get a message on the way to them in a few clicks at the following link: https://p2a.co/yyxKKsL
Also, please pass the message along to your colleagues and friends. It’s important for legislators to hear from doctors and patients.
Thank you for speaking out,
~AAPS
