AAPS Member Rep. Tom Price, MD’s Floor Remarks on Government Takeover of Health Care

Washington, D.C. – Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA) made the following remarks tonight during debate of H.R. 3962, Speaker Pelosi’s government takeover of health care.

“Thank you, Madame Speaker.

“Healthcare, at its very core, is a compassionate and a moral human endeavor. As a physician, I can tell you that I never saw a Democrat or Republican disease. The medical decisions that each American makes for themselves and for their families are some of the most important and personal decisions ever made.

“And there are principles of health care that we should follow. Think about those principles, of access and affordability and quality and responsiveness, and innovation and choices. Think about those principles.

“None of those principles are improved by the further intervention of the federal government. Which is why we should adopt and concentrate on positive, patient-centered health care reform.

“It is so very important that principles be in place that will ensure that patients, and their families, and their doctors are able to make those personal medical decisions unencumbered by a stifling and oppressive federal government. But, sadly, this bill will not allow independent decisions and is wrong in so many ways.

“This bill – on page 94 – will make it illegal for any American to obtain healthcare not ‘approved’ by Washington.

“This bill – on page 301 – will force Americans to purchase the health coverage that Washington picks, not that you select for yourselves.

“This bill – on pages 297 & 313 – places job-killing taxes on virtually every single business.

“This bill – on page 211 – will force millions of Americans to lose their current personal, private health coverage.

“This bill – comes with a price tag of $1.3 trillion, which will be borne by our children and our grandchildren.

“This bill – on page 520 – slashes billions of dollars from Medicare that will necessitate healthcare rationing for seniors.

“And this bill – on page 733 – empowers the Washington bureaucracy to deny life-saving patient care if it costs ‘too much’

“This bill is not a healthcare bill. This bill is an affront on the morality of the provision of American healthcare. As a physician, when patients, and their families, and their doctors are not allowed to independently decide what care should be provided, we lose more than our healthcare system. We lose our morality and our freedom.

“This bill, whether known or not, is an oppressive affront to every single American.

“The positive vote, the bipartisan vote, on this bill is no.”

Dr. Price is right on the mark with his comments.

Thank goodness for those who will stand up and tell the truth. We need more people like him.

Too bad 220 representatives voted tonight to inflict this type of a bill on the American public. And just think, they don’t even have to participate in the healthcare plan they’ve passed on to the American public.

I sincerely hope that each representative is defeated in their next election! They deserve no less. I’ll certainly be working to defeat the one in my district.

Kudos to fellow physician Rep Tom Price!
Unfortunately, HB-6932 passed by a margin of 5 votes.

When this becomes a law, and without debating on the merits, pros and cons of the law, the least Americans can do, irrespective of political, social ,ethical DNA will be to consider a recourse of bringing this matter of “mandate to buy health insurance with penalties and jail-time for failure to do so”, for review by the US Supreme Court. As 2 branches of government are aligned to to take this country towards this direction, constitutionality of this provision needs to be resolved once and for all, by the only remaining recourse in this Constitutional Republic.

  • Thank you Tom Price! Please continue to work toward

putting a stop to GOVERNMENT INTRUSION into this most

precious aspect of our lives and freedoms as AMERICANS!

Nancy, not only should you cancel your AARP membership,

but ask for a refund!!!! I did and I got my $$$ back!

Join ASA – American Seniors Association!

The 39 Democrats voting against this Czar Care would have been joined by more, reps. who were seduced by the earlier passage of a bill prohibiting government-funded abortions, (likely to be removed in conference).

It would not have passed without the continued deceptions.
Senators will note that and the recent election of governors opposing it.

God bless Dr. Prices’ enthusiastic leadership

THANK YOU DR PRICE. IF THE PRESIDENT COULD TELL US THE WHOLE TRUTH ONCE IN A WHILE, IT WOULD BE NICE!!! BUT…THAT CERTAINLY NOT BE. I SO APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT AT THE DEBATE AND THE RESEARCH YOU DID TO FIND THE TRUTH. NOW I WILL GO AND SEARCH THE PAGES YOU HAVE MENTIONED ABOVE SO THAT I CAN IN TURN ENLIGHTEN SOME OF MY FELLOW CITIZENS.

For Nancy Kelly, yes, the AARP supports this bill. I called them and strongly admonished them for their actions. I appreciate Dr. Price’s efforts with his eloquent speech regarding the facts about this bill. I’ve already contacted my congressman (NJ) and expressed my displeasure regarding his vote, assuring him I will not be voting for him come election time. That goes for my senators too.

Thank you Dr. Price for your comments. I have also contacted my Senator to urge a no vote on this health care reform. As more and more of our freedoms are being stripped away, I become more inclined to become more active. I have had it with the lies and the Government knows best mentality. It is time for real change in politics, the Constitution is being trampled under foot and it’s time for citizens to let their voice be heard.

    My thoughts exactly…

    …on abortion.
