AZ Alert: No to SB 1221 – Protect Patient Privacy

Dear AAPS Members and Friends in Arizona,

Your help is once again needed to stop a harmful bill from passing through the Arizona legislature that would decrease your control over your personal health information.

Last session, thanks to your efforts, this damaging proposal was defeated. Unfortunately, it has reemerged in 2023.

If passed, Senate Bill 1221 would ensconce into Arizona statute aspects of former Governor Ducey’s Executive Order 2022-02 that are detrimental to patient privacy. This measure empowers a wide range of entities to access and redisclose your medical records — including your COVID-19 status and vaccination history — without your knowledge or permission.

Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 2pm, the Arizona State Senate Health and Human Services Committee will be holding a hearing that will include consideration of SB 1221.

Please send a note today to members of the committee. Ask them to protect patient privacy and VOTE NO on SB 1221.

You can get a message on the way with a couple clicks using the following link:https://p2a.co/tv8aojn

Other ways you can help:

1) If you have an RTS account at azleg.gov, please “sign in” and formally register your opposition to SB 1221.

2) Consider testifying at the hearing in person if you can make it to the Capitol on February 7.

Thank you for speaking out. Your voice makes a difference!
