Florida Update: Protect Physician Free Speech & Your Rights!

Dear AAPS Members and Friends in Florida:

We have two important updates to our alert from earlier this week.

Update 1: In addition to the crucial bills mentioned below (HB 1403 and SB 1580) that protect physician speech and right of conscience, we need to let you know about another important piece of legislation that needs your support.

The proposed committee substitute for HB 1487 sponsored by Rep. Joel Rudman is also on the agenda of the Florida House Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee this coming Monday, April 3.  The PCS for HB 1487 places important safeguards and limits on public health emergency actions implemented by the state.

Please take a moment and use the following link to send the Subcommittee members a note asking them to support the legislation to protect Floridians from abuse of emergency powers that do more harm than good and abrogate their rights: https://p2a.co/W0iC2Kp

Too much harm has been caused (e.g. lockdowns, school closures, mask mandates) by heavy-handed rules issued without any meaningful oversight!

Update 2: Sending messages to the committee helps demonstrate the widespread support these three bills have. But in addition, it is important that as many people as possible attend the committee hearings. If you are able to be in Tallahassee Monday or Tuesday (April 3 or 4), please let us know (reply to this message or email [email protected]) so we can connect you with other physicians and patients who will be in attendance.

AAPS Members and Friends in Florida:

HB 1403 will be heard before the Florida House Health Regulation Subcommittee on Monday, April 3rd at 10:30am. On Tuesday, April 4th, at 8:30am, the Florida Senate Health Policy committee will be hearing the related Senate version SB 1580.

What do these bills aim to accomplish? Simply put, the measures will help protect physicians and other medical professionals who are courageously opposing policies, mandates, and medical interventions like COVID vaccines that they believe are harming their patients and the public.

Currently, medical professionals who voice ideas that are contrary to the dictates of bureaucrats not involved in patient care are being silenced.

These intimidating tactics must stop. HB 1403 and SB 1580 take important steps in putting protections in place to ensure physicians and other clinicians can speak out without fear of punishment by their employers, licensing and specialty boards, hospitals, and others.

How can you help?

Please take a few short moments today to send the committee members messages asking them to support HB 1403 and SB 1580.

You can get your messages on the way with just a few clicks using the following link: https://p2a.co/HKOKToS

Please consider personalizing the template messages if you have additional information about these problems you think the committee members should know.

In addition, if you are able to travel to Tallahassee on April 3 or 4 to testify in person, please let us know by replying to this email or by writing [email protected].

Thank you for speaking out! Your voice makes a difference. ~AAPS
