Healthcare Policy Weekend Round-Up: 10/28/2013

Compiled and summarized for AAPS members by The Market Institute.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) is calling for HHS Secretary to recognize and fix her mistakes regarding the Healthcare.gov rollout or resign (USA Today).

The Congressional Budget Office estimate of 7 million enrollees on the health exchanges is at best, a guesstimate, Drew Altman argues. That figure should not be used as a yard stick for the law, but rather a rough figure to determine the effect of Obamacare on the federal budget (Politico).

Middle class Americans in California are now discovering how much their insurance premiums will go up and many are not happy (Los Angeles Times).

Many agree that the call centers set up to help Americans sign up for health insurance through the federal exchange are not a viable alternative to a website. The centers are also dealing with problems related to Healthcare.gov and it is slowing the process to sign consumers up (Salt Lake Tribune).

It was widely expected to be attached to the government shutdown bill earlier this month, and ultimately wasn’t, but the bipartisan effort to repeal the medical device tax is far from over (USA Today).

Govenor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) and other Republican lawmakers said on Sunday the failed launch of Healthcare.gov will not be the last aspect of Obamacare that Republicans attack (FOX News).

A data center operated by Verizon’s Terremark failed on Sunday, rendering every health exchange website in the country non-functioning. There is no word  on how long the technical glitch will take to get fixed (Reuters).
