AAPS Thanks Gov. Ducey and Sen. Barto for Enactment of SB 1271

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons thanks Arizona Governor Doug Ducey for signing SB 1271 into law on May 10, 2021. AAPS also extends it gratitude to the bill’s author, Senator Nancy Barto.

SB 1271 puts in place commonsense reforms that benefit benefit patient care facilities, medical graduates, and patients in Arizona in both the short and long term.

For unmatched graduates the new law offers expanded options for those who currently have no opportunities to train or serve. For facilities, it increases the pool of high caliber individuals available to serve under supervision. These reforms also benefit residency programs as they strengthen the skills of future applicants.

The ultimate goal is increasing patient access to high quality care. SB 1271 will help further this aim by increasing the long term supply of fully licensed physicians.
