Oklahoma Action Alert: Support SB 896
End Medical Board Monopoly

State medical boards are increasingly seeking to improperly punish physicians for political reasons, like for speaking out about harmful COVID mandates.

A physician in Minnesota, Dr. Scott Jensen, for example, is now under investigation by the state licensing board for the fifth time for “alleged COVID-19 disinformation.”

These political witch hunts hurt patients by threatening the ability of good physicians like Dr. Jensen to remain in practice. They also divert the board’s resources from legitimate investigations into practitioners who actually are putting the public at risk.

That is why we are encouraged to see the introduction of Oklahoma State Senate Bill 896. This innovative legislation, if passed, would allow the creation of alternatives to the current state medical board monopoly for authorizing physicians to treat patients in Oklahoma.

It is past time to introduce competition to the broken licensure process and that is what the “competitive certification” concept, facilitated by SB 896, seeks to do.

If enacted, SB 896, would enable a system of competing entities that would empower patients to verify their physicians’ qualifications. This solution has the potential for providing patients with more relevant information they need to choose the professionals who care for them than is available in the current government-controlled system. It would also protect medical professionals from losing their ability to practice their profession for arbitrary and improper reasons.

Please take a moment to send a note to your Oklahoma legislators asking them to support SB 896.
